4-channel surge protector module for Gigabit Ethernet LAN network, PTU-64-PRO/PoE

A dual-function module designed to protect gigabit LAN networks from the effects of surges and lightning strikes. It is built on a multilayer PCB with carefully designed printed circuits, which, together with durable, compact components and dedicated Category 6 sockets, ensure excellent transmission quality and high impact resistance. Each wire is individually protected by a protective component with a 2.5kA (8/20µs) impact resistance, which, combined with uniform, very thick traces, results in a product with stable surge protection properties.

Low values of wave reflections, foreign crosstalk, and attenuation for frequencies of 4 x 250Mhz, as well as the continuation of the connection of the cable shield, allowed the PTU-64-PRO module to be classified as a Category 6 compliant product, which is important for large 1000Base-T and 1000Base-Tx LAN networks. Despite not utilizing the quality parameters of Category 6 in the most popular 1000Base-T networks, the quality reserve of these parameters is important for the stability of their operation, as the amount of interference signals increases proportionally to the number of LAN cables in the Rack cabinet.

For devices powered by PoE, independent protection against voltage surges has been built in between pairs 1,2 - 3,6 and 4,5 - 7,8. This solution protects LAN device power supplies from damage caused by surges, such as those caused by lightning strikes or uncontrolled voltage increases, for example due to a PoE power supply failure. The solutions used protect all types of PoE power and allow for power transmission in the Hi PoE standard.

On the protected side (Device), RJ-45 sockets have been used, which allow for quick switching of wires; on the unprotected side, LSA connectors (formerly Krone) have been used. This solution creates two devices in one: Effective surge protection + patch panel designed for direct mounting of LAN wires. Metal screw clamps create an electrical connection between the panel and the FTP wire screen and mechanically secure them, protecting against tearing.

The PTU-64-PRO/PoE module is installed in a dedicated PTU/PTF-6-RACK base, which can accommodate up to 4 modules of different types. Ready-made 8-channel and 16-channel devices with all modules of the same type are also available. The module can also be used in small installations and screwed to the wall after being mounted in a plastic PTU/PTF-6-BOX(DIN) housing.

Product tested according to categories D1, C2, C1, B2. It is intended for use at the boundaries of LPZ0/LPZ1 zones or higher.
