PTU-58R-EXT/PoE is an 8-channel patch panel, designed for installation in 100Mbit LAN networks, suitable for mounting in 19 "RACK cabinets, equipped with the latest surge protection system using MOSFET technology, eliminating surge currents up to 2kA per one conductor of LAN cable (14kA total).
It is designed for use IP closed circuit television, in industrial, power or railway environments, where LAN end-devices are installed on metal constructions, UPS power or different power sources, where there is a risk of high voltages between the points of their earthing. MOSFET technology introduces an additional separation buffer with a very low hysteresis and a reaction time of only 1uS. It which prevents the flow of equalizing currents, moreover it decreases a few times surge voltages - both features are not possible in conventional solutions available on the market.
Surge protection eliminates ground loop potentials and surges induced inside Data pairs and in PoE power pairs. They protect power supplies of LAN devices against power surges due to overvoltage or damage to the power supply, both on transmission pairs as well as on 4.5 and 7.8 pairs - is compatible with every PoE standard up to 60W.
The patch panel consists of two PTU-54-EXT/PoE modules, assembled in a 19" RACK panel and can be easily expanded to 16 channels using any of the PTU-54 or PTF-54 series modules, creating its own surge protection configuration. 5xx are newly designed modules that have better transmission parameters and load parameters relative to earlier series. It ensures stable operation and less crosstalk.
The surge protection works with UTP, FTP cabling systems of 5, 5e, 6th category or higher, but due to the internal connections, the transmission speed will not be higher than 100Mbit. In the 100Base-T Ethernet network, the 4.5 and 7.8 lines are used only to supply PoE and for simplifying the protection circuit they has been grouped. It does not change the parameters of these networks, but during measuring using of the LAN Tester , short-circuit of these lines will be reported - which is a normal effect. Patch panel PTU-58R-EXT/PoE is not suitable for LAN networks, which are subject to certification for 5e, 6th category or higher - in this case, use a patch panel dedicated to this cabling category (necessarily with Keystone modules) and a surge protection device PTF-58R-EXT/PoE.
On the unprotected side (input), LSA connectors (Krone) and clamps for shielded cables were used, and on the protected side (exit) RJ-45 socket were used to connect LAN devices. Optional top cover protects against dust and accidental damage to the protection modules. Special holes in the base for mounting the panel on the wall. The tabs and holes for the cable ties allow for secure fixing of the LAN cables.
When used for CCTV installations together with Network Video Recorders, the panel can be mounted on angle brackets at the rear of the Rack cabinet. The benefits of this solution are: More space in the rack cabinet, convenient access to all connections, shorter patch cords - NVR recorders usually have all connectors at the rear panel.
The efficiency is achieved by using surge protection at the two ends of the LAN cable and their proper earthing. Typically, at the LAN switch side multi-channel surge protection is used and on the end-LAN devices 1-channel protectors are used. In order to balance the strength for the surge currents of the entire LAN line, on the other side of the cable use a protector the PRO or EXT series.
