16-port LAN security from the EXTREME series with PoE injector function, dedicated for 100Mbit LAN networks and for IP-CCTV cameras and systems, mounted in a 19" RACK cabinet, PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/A.

PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/A is a 16-channel surge protection device designed to protect 100Mbit LAN networks from the effects of surges and lightning strikes. It is used in industrial automation systems, building automation, and IP-CCTV video surveillance systems. The device's design includes highly effective protection for data transmission lines and allows for the delivery of PoE power up to 30W/channel in active mode. The product is compatible with the IEEE802.3at PoE standard / option A, allowing for an increase in the number of PoE-powered ports or the total power delivered to the system.

Data transmission and PoE are carried out on transmission lines 1-2, 3-6, similar to the IEEE 802.3at standard, option A. Pairs 4-5 and 7-8 are completely disabled inside the device. Built-in PoE protection safeguards against power surges caused by voltage spikes, power supply malfunctions, or induced surges in LAN cables.

PoE power expansion

 

The product can be connected to a LAN switch that does not have PoE power ports or can be used to increase the number of PoE ports. Such solutions also allow for an increase in the overall performance of the PoE LAN switch, as the ports to which the module is connected will not be using PoE power at all. Each 4-channel module requires a power supply with a voltage of 48-56VDC, providing sufficient power for the powered devices - in the case of full load, the recommended power supply should have a minimum of 120W.

High impact resistance of up to 2.5kA for each wire with direct discharge to the ground protects the switch ports from damage caused by the induction of high energy in the LAN cables or partial surge currents from lightning strikes. The MOSFET technology used significantly reduces the surge voltage that may occur on the protected side.

The protective panel consists of four PTF-54-EXT/InPoE/A modules, mounted in a PTU/PTF-5-RACK housing.

The Extreme series surge protectors are the most effective products designed to protect devices mounted on metal structures and in industrial conditions. They should be used wherever, in addition to the risk of surges, potentials may appear between local grounding points. Such phenomena occur when LAN end devices are mounted on metal structures, such as poles, halls or towers, where at the moment of atmospheric discharge, there is a temporary potential difference between them, which can be closed through LAN cables.

The above-mentioned threats also occur in heavy industry or rail transport, where the activation of heavy machinery, generators or UPS units also generates large potential differences.

The PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/A protection is compatible with Ethernet standards 10Base-T and 100base-T. It consists of a PTU/PTF-5-RACK housing and two PTF-54-EXT/InPoE/A modules, with free space for mounting two additional modules from a different series, in order to create a custom product configuration.

To achieve full protection of the installation, it is necessary to use surge protection at both ends of the LAN cable and properly ground them. Usually, a multi-channel protection is used on the LAN switch side and a single-channel protection on the end devices side. In order to balance the impulse strength of the entire LAN line on the other side of the cable, a PRO or EXT series limiter should be used. The use of two EXTREME series limiters at both ends of the cable provides the highest level of protection, but increases the series resistance of the circuit, which should be taken into account when measuring and calculating PoE power losses.

EXT series protectors should not be connected to popular patch panels using LSA (Krone) or Keystone connectors, due to the low impulse strength of their printed circuits. It is best to use cables terminated with simple RJ-45 connectors.

The product is tested according to categories D1, C2, C1, B2. It is intended for use at the boundaries of LPZ0/LPZ1 zones or higher.
