16-channel surge protection for LAN and IP-CCTV, PTF-516R-PRO/PoE

PTF-516R-PRO/PoE is a surge protection device, dedicated to effectively protecting 16 LAN channels at speeds of 100Mbit and the devices connected to it, installed outside buildings. It is recommended for radio bridges, CCTV cameras, automation controllers, and lighting, mounted on building facades and other ungrounded structures. High impact resistance of up to 2.5kA for each wire with direct discharge of charge to the ground prevents damage to electronics due to high energy induction in the wires or spark jumps from other installations or cabling.

The complete protection consists of four PTF-54-PRO/PoE modules, mounted in the PTU/PTF-5-RACK housing, which can be easily replaced with other models. The 5xx series has significantly better transmission and load parameters compared to earlier models, thanks to numerous simulations and tuned printed circuits. The new design of the protective circuits of the PoE path protects each of the available standards and allows for power transmission of up to 60W.

The protective panel can be used with UTP, FTP cabling of category 5, 5e, 6, or higher. In 100Mbit (100Base-T) networks, lines 4,5 and 7,8 are used exclusively for PoE power supply, and for the simplification of the electronic circuit, they have been grouped, which does not change the operating parameters of these networks; however, when measuring the LAN network with meters, short circuits will be reported on these lines. Measurements of category 5e and 6 installations or higher should be performed without the participation of the PTF-516R-PRO/PoE protection. The built-in PoE power protections protect against power surges due to overvoltage or damage to the power supply, both on the transmission pairs and on pairs 4,5 and 7,8.

The Rack housing along with the electronics creates a complete protective panel, equipped with RJ-45 sockets on the protected and unprotected sides, which facilitates connection to existing installations and shortens the servicing process. The optional PTU/PTF-5/6-COVER protects the electronics from dirt and accidental damage, and the protrusions and holes for cable ties allow for secure mounting of the wires.

Optional LK-MOUNT corner brackets are used to mount the panel at a 45-degree angle on the rear rail of the Rack cabinet, which is beneficial when using NVR recorders in CCTV installations.

The best protection efficiency is achieved by using surge protection devices at both ends of the LAN cable and properly grounding them. Typically, a multi-channel device is used on the LAN switch side, while single-channel protections are used on the end device side. To balance the impact resistance of the entire LAN line, a limiter no lower than the PRO or EXT series should be used on the other side of the cable.

PRO series limiters should not be connected to popular patch panels using LSA (Krone) connectors due to the low impact resistance of their printed circuits.
