PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/P is a 16-channel surge protection device, dedicated to protecting LAN 100Mbit networks in industrial automation systems, building automation, and IP-CCTV industrial television installations. It provides very effective protection for data transmission lines while delivering PoE power of 15W/channel in passive mode.

By increasing the supply voltage to 56V, it is possible to transmit power up to 20W per channel. The specified maximum power is dictated by the simple introduction of PoE (without a negotiation circuit) and an automatic fuse of 350mA. Passive power transmission above 15W @ 48V is not recommended, as damage to the cable or a connection error may cause damage to the LAN ports in end devices. For power transmission up to 30W/port, we recommend using the PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/A module, which includes an active PSE negotiation circuit.

The product can be used with a LAN switch that does not have PoE powered ports or used to increase the number of PoE ports in case of insufficient power or number of PoE ports in the LAN switch. A power supply with a voltage of 48-56VDC with a recommended output of 2A should be used to power each module, which will prevent the power supply from shutting down when the automatic fuse is activated.

The Extreme series surge protectors are the most effective products designed to protect devices mounted on metal structures and in industrial conditions. They should be used wherever, in addition to the risk of surges, potential differences may occur between local grounding points. Such phenomena occur when LAN end devices are mounted on metal structures, such as poles, halls, or towers, where, at the moment of a lightning discharge, a temporary potential difference occurs between them, which can close through LAN cables.

The above-described hazards also occur in heavy industry or railways, where the activation of heavy machines, generators, or UPS systems also generates large potential differences.

High impact resistance of up to 2.5kA for each wire with direct charge discharge to the ground prevents damage to electronics due to the induction of large energy in the wires or spark jumps from other installations. The applied MOSFET technology significantly reduces the surge voltage that may appear on the protected side due to the dynamic resistance of the silicon components or the operation of the protection at elevated temperatures.

The PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/P protection is compatible with Ethernet standards 10Base-T and 100base-T. The complete product consists of the housing PTU/PTF-5-RACK and four PTF-54-EXT/InPoE/P modules. Shielded RJ-45 connectors on both the protected and unprotected sides facilitate both adaptation to the existing system and servicing.

Optional LK-MOUNT angle brackets allow the panel to be mounted at a 45-degree angle on the rear rail of the Rack cabinet, which is beneficial when using NVR recorders in CCTV installations. This reduces the length of patch cords and increases the amount of space in the Rack cabinet.

The best protection efficiency is achieved by using surge protectors at both ends of the LAN cable and properly grounding them. Typically, a multi-channel protection is used on the LAN switch side, while single-channel protections are used on the end device side. To balance the impact resistance of the entire LAN line on the other side of the cable, a PRO or EXT series limiter should be used. Using two EXTREME series limiters at both ends of the cable provides the highest level of protection but increases the series resistance of the circuit, which should be taken into account during measurements and power loss of the PoE supply.

PoE transmission occurs on transmission lines 1-2, 3-6, similar to the IEEE standard: 802.3af, option A. Pairs 4-5 and -7-8 are completely disabled inside the device. The built-in PoE power protections protect against power surges due to overvoltage or damage to the power supply.

EXT series protections should not be connected to popular patch panels using LSA (Krone) or Keystone connectors due to the low impact resistance of their printed circuits. It is best to use cables terminated with the simplest RJ-45 connectors.

The product is tested according to categories D1, C2, C1, B2. It is intended for use at the boundaries of LPZ0/LPZ1 zones or higher.
