USB to RS-485 converter, based on the FTDI FT232RL integrated circuit. RS-485 interface connected to USB
USB-485 is an interface that allows you to connect the RS-485 communication bus to a PC via a USB port.
It is designed for communication between a PC and devices such as access control systems, alarm systems, telemetry devices, industrial automation systems, and anywhere else where PCs do not have a built-in COM port (RS-232).
The FTDI chip used emulates a standard COM port on the computer, which is converted to a differential signal inside the converter, in accordance with the RS-485 standard. The maximum length of the bus can be up to 1200m in a daisy chain topology.
The USB to RS-485 converter is easy to connect and is automatically installed on new operating systems. The device is visible in operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and others that support FTDI drivers as a COM port (RS-232).
The product is equipped with built-in ESD protection for the USB port and the RS-485 port (600W), which protects the device from voltage surges.
The product does not have galvanic isolation, so it is not recommended for use in heavily industrialized conditions where potential differences and connection surges may occur. For use in industrial conditions, the USB-485/So product should be used.
