How to read product markings PTU/PTF-xxx-xxx/xxx?

The symbols of our protective devices for CCTV systems and LAN networks often consist of letters, numbers, and additional abbreviations that may seem random at first glance. In reality, each designation is a carefully designed system that allows for quick identification of the most important product parameters. These are not just technical designations – they are the key to information about the functionality, application, and level of protection of a given product.

Thanks to this, you do not need to delve into detailed technical specifications right away – the name of the device will already tell you:

  • what connectors have been used,
  • how many protective ports the device has,
  • what bandwidth and transmission category it supports,
  • what level of surge protection it offers,
  • whether it provides support for PoE and in what form,
  • in what housing it is enclosed?

Below, we show examples of how to read our designations and how to quickly find the necessary information.

 

Example 1: PTF-61-PRO/PoE/DIN

PTF – a device equipped with RJ-45 sockets on both the protected and threatened sides, allowing for quick connection of wires without the use of additional adapters,

6” – supports all eight transmission lines (Ethernet up to 10 Gb/s) and full PoE power support,

1” – the number of protective ports, meaning a single channel protecting one end device, e.g., an access point, edge switch, or IP camera,

PRO – two levels of protection (GDT, TVS) (link to differences), which effectively increase the device's resistance to surges and voltage spikes - this solution is intended for applications requiring high reliability for use in zones LZ0 and higher,

PoE – the ability to transmit and simultaneously protect the PoE signal - both data and power transmitted over a single network cable are protected,

DIN – adapted for mounting on a DIN rail, allowing for easy and organized installation in control cabinets, distribution boards, and other industrial systems equipped with a TH 35 rail.

 

Example 2: PTU-616R-EXT/PoE

PTU – a device equipped with LSA (KRONE) connectors on the threatened side, allowing for direct termination of wires without using RJ-45 plugs. This solution is particularly recommended for permanent installations where durability and reliability of connections are crucial,

6” – supports all eight transmission lines (Ethernet up to 10 Gb/s) and full PoE power support,

16” – the number of protective ports, meaning sixteen independent protective channels - this type of device is intended for extensive installations, e.g., to protect an entire switch or a larger group of IP devices,

R – designation that the device is adapted for mounting in a 19” RACK cabinet, allowing for use in professional server rooms and monitoring centers,

EXT – three levels of protection (GDT, MOSFET, TVS) (link to differences), which is the highest level of protection in the EWIMAR offer, guaranteeing effective protection even in environments particularly exposed to surges, e.g., in external installations operating at the boundary of LPZ0 zones,

PoE – the device supports and protects PoE power along with data transmission, ensuring that both the signal and power transmitted over a single cable are protected from damage.

 

Example 3: PTF-51-ECO/PoE/Micro/T

PTF – a device equipped with RJ-45 sockets on both the protected and threatened sides, allowing for quick connection of wires without the use of additional adapters,

5” – supports transmission in category 5 standard (Ethernet up to 100 Mb/s), protection of pairs 1–2 and 3–6 for data and power pairs (4–5 and 7–8),

1” – the number of protective ports, meaning a single channel intended to protect one end device, e.g., an IP camera,

ECO – an economical version of the device, providing a basic level of surge protection - an ideal solution for less demanding installations where the optimal price-to-quality ratio is important,

PoE – the device passes and simultaneously protects PoE power, ensuring that both data and power transmitted over a single cable are protected,

Micro – a miniature design, adapted for operation in limited spaces, its compact size and built-in patch cord facilitate installation in areas with limited free space, e.g., in installation boxes,

T – the device is equipped with a heat-shrinkable cover (heat-shrinkable sleeve), which further reduces the dimensions of the device and provides additional insulation and mechanical protection.

 

Example 4: BOX-PTU-51-EXT/PoE/MINI

BOX – a device in an external housing, with an IP65 protection class, intended for mounting on facades, in technical spaces, or lighting poles,

PTU – LSA connectors on the threatened side, allowing for direct connection of wires without using RJ-45 plugs. A solution often used in permanent installations where reliability and durability of connections are important,

5” – supports transmission in category 5 standard (Ethernet up to 100 Mb/s), protection of pairs 1–2 and 3–6 for data and power pairs (4–5 and 7–8),

1” – one protective port, protecting one end device, e.g., an IP camera,

EXT – three levels of protection (GDT, MOSFET, TVS) (link to differences), which is the highest level of protection in the EWIMAR offer, guaranteeing effective protection even in environments particularly exposed to surges, e.g., in external installations operating at the boundary of LPZ0 zones,

PoE – full support and protection of PoE power and data transmission in one cable,

MINI – a compact version of the IP65 housing. The miniaturized design provides high protection in places where space-saving is crucial.

 

Example 5: PTF-516R-EXT/InPoE/A

PTF – a device equipped with RJ-45 sockets on both the protected and threatened sides, allowing for quick connection of wires without the use of additional adapters,

5” – supports transmission in category 5 standard (Ethernet up to 100 Mb/s), protection of pairs 1–2 and 3–6 for data,

16” – the number of protective ports, meaning sixteen independent protective channels - this type of device is intended for extensive installations, e.g., to protect an entire switch or a larger group of IP devices,

R – designation that the device is adapted for mounting in a 19” RACK cabinet, allowing for use in professional server rooms and monitoring centers,
