The SUG-7-DIN/4-20mA is a high-quality surge protector designed to safeguard industrial automation components from damages caused by lightning strikes and various types of surges. It efficiently eliminates and directs large electric charges (up to 10kA) to the ground while also mitigating potentials between individual conductors within transmission lines.

This surge protector is intended for mounting on a 35mm DIN rail. The retractable locks on both sides facilitate easy installation of the SUG-7 in any orientation. Featuring high-quality screw terminals with a high current load capacity, it reduces the risk of damage during significant shock impulses. The device occupies the width of a single DIN standard module.

Incorporating an innovative solution in the form of a super-fast MOSFET fuse, the surge protector provides additional protection for current loop interfaces against potential differences and overload due to short circuits or overloads. Protection against potentials is achieved through automatic MOSFET fuses with very low hysteresis, disconnecting the input circuit from the output circuit within just 1µs after exceeding the nominal current by a mere 0.5mA above the standard. Once the threat subsides, the connection is restored within 1µs.


Due to the possibility of overvoltage occurring from any direction, it is recommended to connect surge protectors at both ends of the current loop, which enhances response speed and the level of protection. The SUG-7-DIN should be grounded using either an individually made grounding point or through the PE line. However, attention should be paid to ensuring that the path for discharging the charge to the ground is as short as possible.
