PTF-4-EXT/PoE is a 4-channel device dedicated to the Local Area Network , with very high efficiency in eliminating overvoltage in LAN networks, containing 3 levels of protection. It uses automatic MOSFET circuit breakers with 1us response time, acting as a quick and effective decoupling element, creating a barrier during the surge. Includes a connection system for UTP/FTP 5 category cable with RJ-45 continuity screen.

It is dedicated to protect the LAN against overvoltage, emerging as a result of lightning and electrostatic discharge and also against acts of sabotage. Extreme Series is recommended to defend LAN devices where the terminals are installed on masts, poles or roofs and are exposed to direct lightning.


Patch-panel housing has a special shape, designed for restraining LAN wire using band clip. Additional holes allow the use of double bands on each wire, which increases the mechanical strength of the connected cables.

The device effectively protects the structure of CCTV systems in which the devices are installed outdoors, however, in the case of equipment mounted on roofs or poles, it is recommended to use the panel Extreme Series.

The protection consists in neutralising emergency electrostatic pulses of low power, resulting in relation to the earth (protectors gas) and pulse induced between pairs of twisted wires UTP/FTP during a lightning. These impulses have a destructive effect on the Ethernet interface amplifiers, despite using galvanic insulation used on the hardware layer.

PTF-4-EXT/PoE is specially designed for powering CCTV. Pins 4.5 and 7.8 are used to power up, they are connected together to increase the current flowing through the protection system. Due to the limited power decoupling resistors, the maximum power to the equipment should not exceed 30W at 48V. Decoupling resistors protect the safety components from damage in the event of an overvoltage throught a long time and allow for gradation of security.

To achieve the full effectiveness of the device it is required to connect to ground (meeting the requirements of the current legislation) or PE wire electrical system. It is not recommended to connect equipment-grounding conductor to the lightning protection system of the building. The device should not be used to install Category 6.

The differences between the series PRO and EXTREME

Typical Pro series protection has decoupling elements in the form of special resistors, which, despite the small size of carry high power for a long time. Heating of the flowing current causes the increase of the resistance, which provides electrical decoupling between protective steps. This is necessary in order to ensure an adequate response to the surge of small and big power. Both resistors and PTC thermistors have a very high inertia time, which entails the risk of a pulse on the secondary side of the transformer and damage to the physical layer Ethernet controllers. This is caused by a sudden impulse current, which occurs when a high potential equalization between devices. This risk arises when the terminal devices (IP cameras) are installed on high poles, roofs or grounded metallic structures.
PRO Series solution

Extreme Series is the latest solution in the form of super-fast circuit breakers, performed in MOSFET technology. They provide a very low electrical resistance during normal operation, so the system LAN does not cause any loss. When the current flow is controlled by the intensity and rise above the predetermined value, the input circuit automatically disconnected from the output circuit at the time of maximum 1us. This ensures complete isolation of the physical layer of the LAN cable to the time when the risk and results in faster build up of strain on the elements of protection, allowing faster reaction takes place on the resulting surge. Time surge can last continuously for any length of time and after his resignation electrical connection is automatically restored within 1us. This design significantly increase the efficiency and speed of tripping and contributes to its very high resistance to damage. To avoid damage to the circuit breakers, it is necessary to connect the ground wire.
