PTU-516R-EXT/PoE is a 16-channel patch panel, designed for installation in 100Mbit LAN networks, suitable for mounting in 19" RACK cabinets. Is equipped with the latest surge protector using MOSFET technology, eliminating surge currents up to 2kA per one conduint on LAN cable (14kA total).
It is designed for use in CCTV IP installations, industrial applications, power or railway environments, where individual LAN devices are installed on metal constructions, near emergency or other power supplies, where there is a risk of high potentials between the points of their earthing. MOSFET technology introduces an additional separation buffer with a very low hysteresis and a reaction time of only 1uS, which prevents the flow of ground loop currents, moreover it decreases the surge voltage several times - both features are not possible in conventional solutions available on the market.
Surge protection eliminates potentials and those induced inside individual pairs, and additional circuits protect PoE. They protect power supplies of LAN devices against power surges due to overvoltage or damage to the power supply, both on transmission pairs as well as on 4.5 and 7.8 pairs, and is compatible with every PoE standard up to 60W.
The protection patch panel consists of four PTU-54-EXT/PoE modules mounted in a 19" RACK housing. The 5xx series products are newly designed protection modules that have better transmission and surge parameters relative to earlier series, which ensures stable operation and less crosstalks.
The product works with UTP, FTP cabling of 5, 5e, 6th category or higher, but due to the connection system the transmission speed will not be higher than 100Mbit. In the 100Base-T Ethernet network, the 4.5 and 7.8 lines are used only to supply PoE. For simplifying of the protection circuits these pairs have been grouped, which does not change the networks parameters. During test the cables using LAN meters, short-circuits will be reported on those pairs, which is a normal effect. The patch panel PTU-516R-EXT/PoE is not designed for LAN cabling, which are subject to certification to 5e, 6th category or higher - in this case, use a patch panel dedicated to this cabling category (necessarily version with Keystone modules) and use the surge protector model PTF-516R-EXT/PoE.
On the unprotected side (input), LSA connectors (Krone) and clamps for shielded cables were used, and on the protected side (output) RJ-45 sockets were used to connect LAN devices. Optional cover protects against dust and accidental damage to the modules and special holes in the base for mounting the panel also on the wall.
When used for CCTV installations together with network recorders, the panel can be mounted on angle brackets LK-MOUNT at the rear of the Rack cabinet. The benefits of this solution are: More space in the cabinet, convenient access to all connections, shorter patch cords - network recorders usually have all connectors at the rear.
The best surge protection efficiency is achieved by using surge arresters at the two ends of the LAN cable and their proper earthing. Typically, on the LAN switch side, this multi-channel products is used and on the end of the end-LAN devices 1-channel surge protectors are used. In order to balance the protectin level of the entire LAN cable on the other side of the cable, use a surge protector the PRO or EXT series.
