The module is designed to protect gigabit LANs against the effects of overvoltages and lightning discharges. It is built on the basis of a multi-layer PCB with carefully designed printed circuits. Along with durable components of small dimensions and dedicated 6th category RJ-45, ensure excellent data transmission quality and high surge currents resistance. Each conductor of the LAN cable is individually protected by a protective component with a 2kA (8 / 20uS) impact strength. In combination with uniform PCB tracks of very high thickness gives a product with stable properties of surge protection.

Low reflections, low foreign crosstalk, and damping for 4 x 250Mhz frequency as well as continuity of the shield connection, allowed to qualify the PTF-64-EXT module for products compliant with the 6th category cabling. This is important for large 1000Base-T and 1000Base-LAN networks . Despite the fact that 6th category quality parameters are not used in the most popular 1000Base-T networks, the quality reserve of parameters is important for the stability of their operation, because the number of disturbing signals increases in proportion to the number of LAN cables in the Rack cabinet.

Built-in 3-level surge protection using MOSFET technology, effectively eliminate overvoltages induced in cabling and introduce additional separation for ground loop potentials between LAN devices. MOSFET technology also reduces the level of overvoltages that reaches a protected device (UP voltage level) during overvoltage to a value that is a little higher than the rated operating voltage (Un). Obtaining such parameters is impossible in the case of the most commonly used conventional solutions.

Independent PoE protection circuits eliminate the overvoltages between 1.2 - 3.6 and 4.5 - 7.8 pairs in the LAN cable. This solution protects power supplies of LAN equipment against damage due to lightning surges or uncontrolled voltage increase, for example as a result of damage to the PoE power supply. The solutions used are compatible with each PoE standard, including Hi PoE.

On the protected side (DEVICE) and unprotected side (LINE), RJ-45 sockets were used. This solution makes it easier to connect LAN cables to existing installations, and helps with maintenance process.

The PTF-64-EXT/PoE module is installed in a dedicated PTU / PTF-6-RACK base - up to four modules of different types. There are also ready to use 8-channel and 16-channel protection systems with all modules of the same type. The PTF module can also be used in small installations after mounting into PTF-64-Box plastic housing.
