16-channel EXTREME surge protection with active PoE input, designed for installation in a 19" Rack cabinet, PTU-516R-EXT/InPoE/A.

The 16-channel surge protection in the form of a Rack patch panel is dedicated to LAN network infrastructure. It is designed for installations where high effectiveness of protection is necessary against both atmospheric discharges and connection surges, which occur in industrial, energy or railway conditions. It effectively protects LAN switches and LAN end devices from induced impulses during atmospheric discharges, partial lightning currents and ground-loop impulses between individual devices. Due to its maximum transmission speed of up to 100Mbit, its main purpose is for CCTV installations, but it can also be used for protecting computers and industrial automation components.

In addition to surge protection, it has a built-in PSE circuit, allowing for PoE power supply of up to 30W/channel in active mode IEEE802.3af/at. The effectiveness of surge protection is up to 2.5kA @ 8/20µs for each wire and 1kA total lightning current for each channel. This is an advanced protection with MOSFET technology, dedicated for devices mounted inside and outside buildings in installations where difficult industrial conditions occur.

High impact resistance of up to 2.5kA for each conductor with direct charge discharge to the ground prevents damage to electronics due to induction of high energy in the wires or spark jumping from other installations. The MOSFET technology used significantly reduces the impact voltage that may occur on the protected side due to the dynamic resistance of silicon components or the operation of the protection at elevated temperatures.

PTU-516R-EXT/InPoE/A consists of four PTU-54-EXT/InPoE/A modules mounted in a PTU/PTF-5-RACK housing.

PoE power transmission takes place on lines 1-2, 3-6, according to IEEE standard: 802.3af/at, option A. Pairs 4-5 and -7-8 are completely disabled inside the device, but have built-in surge protection. Additional protection of the PoE power circuits protects against power surges or damage to the power supply.

The Extreme series surge protectors are the most effective products designed to protect devices mounted on metal structures and in industrial conditions. They should be used wherever, in addition to the risk of surges, potentials may appear between local grounding points. Such phenomena occur when LAN end devices are mounted on metal structures, such as poles, halls or towers, where at the moment of atmospheric discharge, a temporary potential difference occurs between them, which can be closed through LAN cables.

The product can be used with a LAN switch that does not have any PoE ports at all, or in case of insufficient power or number of PoE ports in the LAN switch. To power each module, a power supply with a voltage of 48-56VDC and sufficient power to supply the connected LAN devices must be used.
To fully utilize the power, a minimum of 2.5A power supply is required for one module.

PTU-516R-EXT/InPoE/A is equipped with RJ-45 sockets on the protected side and LSA connectors on the unprotected side. The optional cover PTU/PTF-5/6-COVER protects against dust and accidental damage to the modules, and special openings in the base allow for mounting the panel on the wall as well. Signal cables can be mechanically secured against pulling out using cable ties, using holes or protrusions on the back of the panel.

In the case of using the panel for CCTV installations with network video recorders, it can be mounted on corner brackets at the back of the rack. The benefits of this solution include more space in the rack, convenient access to all connections, and shorter patch cords - IP video recorders usually have all sockets at the back.

Full effectiveness of surge protection is achieved by using protective products at both ends of the LAN cable and proper grounding. Usually, a multi-channel device is used on the LAN switch side, and 1-channel products are used on the end devices side.

The product is tested according to categories D1, C2, C1, B2. It is intended for use at the boundaries of LPZ0/LPZ1 zones or higher.
