Extreme series surge arresters are the most effective products designed to protect devices mounted on metal constructions and industrial conditions. They should be used everywhere where, in addition to the risk of surges, may appear high potentials between local grounding points. Such risks occur when the LAN end devices are mounted on metal constructions, such as poles, halls or towers, also at the moment of lightning between them there is a momentary high voltage pulses that closes through the cables. Despite the built-in isolation transformers on the physical LAN layer, the breakdown voltage is too high for the separation to be effective. The use of EXTREME series surge arresters on two sides of the cable introduces additional separation of up to 1700V for the duration of the overvoltage, thus reducing the risk of damage to the network interfaces.

The hazards described above are also found in heavy industry or railways, where heavy machinery, aggregates or UPSs are also generating large ground loop potentials.

High strength for surge currents up to 2kA for each cunductor of the cable with direct discharge to the ground, prevents damage to electronics due to the induction of high energy in the conductors or during flashover from other installations. The applied MOSFET technology several times reduces the voltage that can appear on the protected side as a result of dynamic resistance of the silicon components or operation of the protection at elevated temperature.

The PTF-516R-EXT/PoE is a 16-channel LAN surge arrester, compatible with 10Base-T and 100base-T standards. It consists of the 19" Rack base and two PTF-54-EXT/PoE modules. Shielded RJ-45 connectors at input and output create a continuation of the FTP cable shield and enables easy adopt to exist systems and servicing.

The product is suitable for UTP or FTP cabling of any category ended with LAN patch panel or RJ-45 plugs. In 100Base-T Ethernet lines 4-5 and 7-8 are used only for PoE power supply and in PTF-516R they have been grouped to simplify the protective system . When performing LAN certification for categories higher than 5th, it is necessary to disconnect the device from the network - LAN meters will indicate short-circuits of the mentioned lines. The PTF-516 always decrease the Ethernet speed to 100Mbit.

The optional LK-MOUNT angle brackets allow the panel to be mounted at a 45-degree angle on the rear rail of the RACK, which is advantageous when using NVR recorders in CCTV installations. This limits the length of patchcords and increases the amount of space in the rack cabinet.

The best surge protection efficiency is achieved by using surge arresters at the two ends of the LAN cable and proper earthing. Typically, the multi-channel surge arresteris used on the LAN switch side and the 1-channel surge arresters on the end of the end-LAN devices. To balance the surge protection level of the LAN cable, on the other side of the cable, use a surge arrester PRO or EXT series. The use of EXTREME series at the two ends of the LAN cable provides the highest level of protection but increases the serial resistance of the circuit, which should be taken into account during tests and loss of power supply PoE.

The PTF-516R-EXT/ PoE has MOSFET technology only in lines 1-2, 3-6, which is important for data transmission signals and PoE power supply in option A. If the MOSFET technology is required in PoE power supply option B or A + B, PTF-616-EXT series must be used, where each protective circuit has been equipped with it.

EXTREME series should not be combined with popular LAN patch panels using LSA connectors (Krone) due to the low strength for surge currents of their printed circuits. As endings of LAN cables, use patch-panel with Keystone type connectors and patch cords with thick conductors, preferably 6th category, shielded.
